Joseph P. Riley, Jr.

Riley is considered one of the most visionary and effective mayors in the United States. As mayor of Charleston, S.C., since 1975, he has guided the city through a renaissance that combines arts, business, development and neighborhood preservation to make it one of the most livable cities in the country. Riley believes leadership means bringing people together to work collaboratively, selflessly and productively for the greater good of the community. He has served as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, chairman of the National League of Cities Urban Conservation Task Force and chairman of the Cities Task Force of the Southern Growth Policies Board.
