James H. Kunstler
Kunstler abandoned a career as a
reporter for Rolling Stone magazine to pursue writing full-time. He wrote The
Geography of Nowhere because he believed many people shared his
feelings about the tragic landscape of highway strips, parking lots,
housing tracts, mega-malls, junked cities and ravaged countryside that
make up the everyday environment where most Americans live and work. His
sequel, Home from Nowhere, is a continuation of that discussion
with an emphasis on remedies. Although he has no formal training in
architecture or urban planning, Kunstler has lectured at Harvard,
Columbia, Cornell, MIT, the University of Virginia and for professional
organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, the American
Planning Association and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
