2008 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio

Business Support of the Arts

Limited Brands, Columbus Limited Brands, Columbus

Nominated By: Wexner Center for the Arts

As a Columbus native who started Limited Brands in Upper Arlington morethan 40 years ago, Leslie H. Wexner recognized the importance of fostering a community rich in opportunities and the cultural enrichment of central Ohiobecame one of his primary goals. Limited Brands Foundation’s strong record of support includes nearly every cultural organization in the area, including the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA), the Columbus Museum of Art, CATCO, BalletMet, COSI, the Franklin Park Conservatory and the King Arts Complex. Another important beneficiary of Limited Brands’ support for arts and culture is the Wexner Center for the Arts. Limited Brands’ most significant support of the Wexner Center for the Arts comes through its concentrated involvement in an annual multimillion-dollar fundraising campaign, to which the company has devoted leadership, volunteer time and generous support for the past 16 years. The company’s support is critical to ensuring the diverse array of programming created and presented by the Wexner Center each season, often free or at a nominal fee. Limited Brands fosters a corporate culture of community service, encouraging employees to give their time and talents to support the arts and other non-profit organizations. More than 140 Limited Brands associates serve on the boards of central Ohio nonprofit organizations. Corporate support for local artists and arts organizations strengthens the cultural, educational and economic fabric of the community. The Limited Brands’ significant investment in arts and non-profit groups is an investment in the collective future of central Ohio.
