Who May Apply
Experienced, professional artists in all disciplines who are interested in working with pre-school children through senior citizens, may apply to the Artist in Residence program.
How Residencies Are Funded
Individual artists are paid a weekly fee of $1,200.00. Fees for more than two artists are negotiated between the Arts Learning staff and sponsors. Contact
Chiquita Mullins Lee for details.
The Ohio Arts Council and the sponsor contribute funds to pay the artist. The OAC funds come from state and federal taxes. Sponsors are encouraged to obtain their local cash matches from a variety of sources such as the school's or organization's operating budget, foundations, earned income activities, parent and school organizations and state or federal funds.
Writing Your Application
Review the Artist in Residence grant guidelines and other sections of the OAC Guidelines. Read and be familiar with the artist selection criteria.

The selection committee considers:
- Strength of professional credentials and references
- Artistic excellence of recent examples of artwork
- Ability to work collaboratively with persons of varying ages and experience in hands-on art-making
- Ability to communicate about their art discipline, including their personal artistic vision
- Ideas for residency plans that support the creative process and learning goals appropriate and realistic for the residency length and available resources
Artists are also evaluated on their ability to serve as ambassadors for their discipline, arts education and the Ohio Arts Councils programs.
