2013 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio
Business Support of the Arts
PNC Bank, Statewide
Nominated By: Michael Roediger, Executive Director, The Dayton Art Institute
Award Accepted By: David Melin, Regional President, Dayton
Through executive leadership, strategic investments and employee volunteerism, The PNC Financial Services Group is helping to build strong communities and create financial opportunities for individuals, families and businesses. PNC Bank’s investments throughout the arts communities of Ohio contribute greatly to the quality of life for Ohioans of all ages and income levels.
Central Ohio enjoys the support of PNC’s Arts Alive, a multi-year, $2.5-million program that supports free and discounted arts programming, public events that introduce the arts in unexpected ways, ticket subsidy programs, and innovative programs that engage and build young audiences. In Greater Cincinnati, PNC extends support to over 20 arts programs - large and small - that have significant impact on the region’s economic and community development. Together, they are working to build a stronger, more vibrant region. In the Dayton area, PNC arts investments are made through sponsorships, educational initiatives and volunteer commitment to organizations incorporating art into preschool classrooms.
In Cleveland, PNC has a long legacy of leadership giving to arts and cultural institutions including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Orchestra, Playhouse Square, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art and the Gordon Square Arts District. PNC-Toledo is a long-time supporter of the Toledo Cultural Arts Center and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. In the Akron area, PNC supports the Masters Program in conjunction with the Akron Art Museum. In Youngstown, PNC supports multiple arts organizations including the Butler Institute of American Art, the Youngstown Symphony and the Youngstown State University’s SMARTS program.
PNC’s Grow Up Great – a $350 million, multi-year, bilingual initiative that began in 2004 – has awarded more than $40 million in grants to nonprofit organizations that work to directly improve children’s school readiness.
