OAC Announces 2015 IMPACT Performances

Alash: Master Tuvan Throat Singers | Traditional Technique Infused with Modern Influence

Columbus, Ohio- The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) presents the 17th statewide International Music and Performing Arts in Communities Tour (IMPACT) with Alash: Master Tuvan Throat Singers. Four performances are scheduled October 17-25 in Medina, Marietta, Portsmouth, and Urbana.

Alash are masters of traditional Tuvan instruments, as well as the ancient art of throat singing. Throat singing is a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at once. The tiny republic of Tuva is a giant when it comes to mastery of the human voice. Largely unheard by the outside world, throat singing is now the subject of international fascination and has become Tuva's best-known export. What distinguishes Alash from earlier generations is the subtle infusion of modern influences into their traditional music.
