Nominations Open for 2016 Governor's Awards

Columbus, Ohio--The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) announces 2016 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio nominations open September 1, 2015.

Nominations will close on October 16, 2015, at midnight. Support letters must also be submitted by this date. All submissions are available online.

Nominations will be accepted in the following seven categories: Arts Administration, Arts Education, Arts Patron, Business Support of the Arts*, Community Development and Participation, Individual Artist, and the Irma Lazarus Award**.

The 2016 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio & Arts Day Luncheon will take place Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in downtown Columbus. Event details will be released in the coming months.

Updates to Nomination Categories:

*There are two updates to the Business Support of the Arts award category.

1. To accommodate Ohio's diverse business climate, there will be two awards in this category-one for small business and one for large.

2. Nonprofit businesses are now applicable for nominations in this category.

**The Irma Lazarus Award has been opened for the 2016 nomination process. In honor of Irma Lazarus--who made countless contributions as an arts patron, advocate, and leader in the development of state funding for the arts in Ohio--the award goes to individuals or organizations who have brought national and international recognition to the state through sustained dedication to artistic excellence.

About the Governor's Awards for the Arts & Arts Day Luncheon: The Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio honors Ohio individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the arts locally, statewide, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Arts Day was created to foster a greater awareness of the value of the arts in Ohio. Citizens are encouraged to participate in Arts Day by visiting with their state legislators and communicating the need for public support of the arts and arts education.
