Canton Museum of Art exhibition reveals the men behind great art forgeries

Can you spot a fake? The Canton Museum of Art hopes so. Through October 26, the museum is hosting the exhibition Intent to Deceive: Fakes and Forgeries in the Art World, which dives deep into the deceit of five notorious art cons: Han Van Meegeren, Elmyr de Hory, Eric Hebborn, John Myatt, and Mark Landis.

Curated by fraud expert Colette Loll, the exhibition sheds light on the men behind the forgeries, all of them struggling artists with little to no success with their original pieces. Through personal effects, film clips, and examples of forgeries, visitors can see what led these men to cultivate a career based on trickery--and what ultimately got them caught.

Test your eye for forgery with side-by-side comparisons of genuine pieces from Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso next to their falsified counterparts.
