by Missy Ricksecker

Dan Katona, the Ohio Arts Council's (OAC) research and program development director, has been promoted to the position of deputy director.

Katona joined the OAC in 2001. He began his career at the agency as community arts coordinator and then director of organizational services before being named research and program development director in 2010. In this capacity, Mr. Katona managed policy development and grant-making processes for Ohio arts and cultural organizations across all arts disciplines in programs offering general operating and project-based support, as well as specialized support for innovative arts initiatives, creative economic development and organizational capacity building. He also played a lead role in agency research efforts, strategic planning, grant proposal writing and information technology improvements, along with various other special projects.

"The Ohio Arts Council has a longstanding custom of hiring exceptional leaders to serve its mission, and Dan's promotion to deputy director continues this tradition," said OAC Executive Director Donna S. Collins.

Mr. Katona is a past fellow of the Academy for Leadership and Governance: Next Generation of Leaders program and was co-coordinator of the international residency project that brought famed Japanese taiko drummer Eitetsu Hayashi to Dublin and Cleveland between 2004 and 2006. He has served as a presenter at the Americans for the Arts annual convention and as an adjudicator for the Arkansas Arts Council, Kentucky Arts Council and Columbus Foundation. He holds a Master of Arts in arts administration from Florida State University, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Music in music education.
