The Ohio Arts Council Announces Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition Winners

The Ohio Arts Council presented ten $300 professional awards and two $250 amateur awards at the opening of the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition on Tuesday, July 22. For the past 16 years the OAC has sponsored awards at the State Fair to support individual artists and engage with the citizens of our state.

Winners of the $300 Ohio Arts Council Awards in the Professional Artist category are:

Paula Nees, Columbus, for the painting Jumping Through Hoops

Shelly Brenner Baird, Columbus, for the fiber art Countevailing

Jill Raymundo, Columbus, for the mixed media piece Luna

Leah Wong, Columbus, for the installation Be Present 2

George Mauersberger, Cleveland, for the drawing/pastel T2

Jessica Larva, Columbus, for the photo Siesta Key

Molly Burke, Columbus, for the ceramic piece Were Not Broken

Casey Jex Smith, Columbus, for the drawing 2013

Edward Hallahan & Jacquelyn Hallahan, Youngstown, for the sculpture Sister from the East

James Mellick, Milford Center, for the sculpture Spira

Winners of the $250 Ohio Arts Council Awards in the Amateur Artist Category are:

Angela Welch, Columbus, Tree #4

Samantha Slone, Springfield, Cracked

Amy Adams, Westerville, received the Purchase Award for her painting Little Lambs Lunch.

The $500 People's Choice Award for the piece of artwork that received the most votes by exhibition visitors was awarded to Dana Lynn Harper for her piece, Bloom Bloom.

The professional division of the exhibition was juried by Dennis Harrington, Weston Art Gallery Director, and Deborah Maris Lader, Founder/Director of the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative. The amateur division was juried by Tamara Peterson, Associate Professor and Head of CORE Design at the Columbus College of Art & Design.

"Collectively, the works deliver an engaging array of subjects and forms, displaying diversity in artistic approach as seen through a small sample of Ohio's many creative lenses," said juror Tamara Peterson about this year's display.

The Fine Arts Exhibition will be open to the public for the duration of the Ohio State Fair in the Cox Fine Arts Center at the Ohio Expo Center.
