by Malika Bryant

Ohio House Speaker William G. Batchelder has appointed state Representative Michael Stinziano to the Ohio Arts Council board, effective June 18, 2014. Representative Stinzianos term will end on December 31, 2014.

"I am delighted that Representative Stinziano has been appointed to the board of the Ohio Arts Council, said Julie Henahan, executive director of the OAC. His enthusiasm for the arts and the work of the OAC is obvious and we welcome such a strong supporter to the board."

Representative Stinziano holds bachelors degree in leadership studies from the University of Richmond, a masters degree in public administration from George Washington University and a law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

With an extensive background in public service, Representative Stinziano has done government work at the local, state, federal and international levels.

During his first term in the Ohio House of Representatives, he was named as the 2011 Democratic Legislator of the Year by The Ohio Association of Election Officials. Throughout his tenure, he has received numerous awards and honors, including the Excellence in Public Policy Award (2012). In 2013, he was named State Director for Young Elected Officials Network.

He currently serves as chairperson for the Columbus Bar Associations Government Agencies Committee. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Public Interest Law Foundation, the Columbus Italian Club, the Shamrock Club of Columbus, the Hilltop Kiwanis and the Short North Civic Association, and is a graduate of the Columbus Civilian Police Academy.

"I have had the honor of knowing Representative Stinziano's father for 40 years, dating back to the time that he was one of central Ohio's top political leaders, said OAC Board Chair Jeffrey A. Rich. Having now met and spoken with his son, I can see the apple did not fall far from the tree. I look forward to working with him to make certain that Ohio has the strongest and most vibrant arts institutions in the nation."
