The 2014 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 12 p.m. Awards will be presented by Senate President Keith Faber and Speaker of the House Bill Batchelder at a luncheon honoring the winners and members of the Ohio Legislature at the Columbus Athenaeum, located at 32 N. 4th St. in downtown Columbus. Ohio's First Lady Karen Waldbillig Kasich will be the guest speaker. The event is hosted by the Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation. The Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio showcase and celebrate Ohio artists, arts organizations, arts patrons and businesses that support the arts. Winners from across the state are selected in six categories every year. The 2014 The award categories and recipients are: Arts Administration, Sherri Geldin, Wexner Center for the Arts (Columbus); Arts Education, Dancing Wheels Company & School (Cleveland); Arts Patron, The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation (Cincinnati); Business Support of the Arts, Macy's, Inc. (Statewide); Community Development and Participation, Neal Gittleman, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra (Dayton); Individual Artist, Sheri Williams, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (Dayton). The 2014 Governor's Awards ceremony and luncheon will be held in conjunction with Arts Day on Wednesday, May 21. This day-long event demonstrating public value and support for the arts is sponsored by the Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation and will include an arts advocacy briefing, legislative visits and student exhibitions.
