Ohio Arts Council Approves 112 grants totaling $424,813

During the Ohio Arts Council's April 3, 2014 board meeting, the OAC board approved the third round of grants for fiscal year 2014 and grant ratifications for fiscal years 2014 and 2013. The OAC will award 112 grants totaling $424,813 to support arts organizations, arts programs and artists across Ohio. These grants have not been announced previously. For FY2014, the OAC has received a total of 1,528 grant requests totaling $14,142,921 and has funded 710 of those requests at $9,654,835.

Organizations that receive OAC funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds on a one-to-one basis. For more information specific to this round of grant announcements, download the following PDF file: a by-city list of grants awarded in this round.

FY 2014 Grant Award Recommendations

Individual Excellence Awards

Seventy-one (71) Individual Excellence Awards were approved totaling $355,000. Individual Excellence Awards are peer recognition of creative artists for the exceptional merit of a body of their work that advances or exemplifies the discipline and the larger artistic community. These awards support artists' growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond. Only applications in choreography, criticism, fiction/non-fiction, music composition, playwriting and poetry were accepted at the September 1, 2014 deadline.

FY 2014 Grant Award Ratifications

Ratifications are the board's final approval of funds allocated in various program areas since its September 17, 2013 meeting.

Artists with Disabilities Access

Thirty-two (32) Artists with Disabilities Access grants were approved totaling $12,250. The Artists with Disabilities Access Program (ADAP) is designed to help artists with disabilities move to a higher level of artistic development.

Special - Organizations

Nine (9) special organization grants were approved for a total of $57,563. These grants support OAC grant programs with rolling deadlines, including Building Cultural Diversity and Artist Express as well as one-time special projects.

FY 2013 Grant Award Ratifications

The board ratified eighteen (18) special organization grants from 2013 for $103,647. Six (6) special individual grants were approved for a total of $6,250. These grants include workshops, seminars and conferences for artists. These awards have not been announced previously.

Grant applications were reviewed by Ohio Arts Council staff and diverse panels of arts experts. The OAC board, consisting of 15 gubernatorial appointees and four nonvoting members from the Ohio legislature, makes final decisions based on panel recommendations.
