The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. The 4,000-square-foot gallery opened on March 17, 1989 with State of the Art: New Works by Ten Ohio Artists. Over the past twenty-five years, the gallery has maintained its focus by showcasing the historic and contemporary works of Ohio artists and curators through innovative exhibitions with varied artistic themes, and diverse collections from statewide, national and international partner organizations, museums and galleries. To offer deeper understanding of exhibition content and of the artists' work, the gallery offers a free-to-the-public guided curator tour, family art workshop and poetry or creative writing workshop during the run of each exhibition. "As incredible as it seems, a quarter of a century has passed since the Riffe Gallery opened and took its place in Ohio's visual arts scene," said Julie Henahan, executive director of the OAC. "The gallery's special view into Ohio's visual arts world has been highly-regarded since its beginning and we are proud to celebrate this benchmark anniversary." Join us May 1 for the Riffe Gallery's official quarter-century celebration, which will coincide with the opening reception for its upcoming exhibition, Impressive Impressions: Selections from Ohio University's Kennedy Museum of Art Print Collection. The Riffe Gallery 25th anniversary celebration event is sponsored by CD 102.5 FM, CityScene Magazine, Pattycake Bakery, Trillium Pies, WOSU and an anonymous donor. There will be complimentary delectables, a prize wheel, and gifts to raffle throughout the evening.
