The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery Presents Quilt National '13

The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery is excited to announce Quilt National '13, the upcoming 18th biennial juried exhibition of innovative art quilts produced by the Dairy Barn Southeastern Ohio Cultural Arts Center. Quilt National '13 will be open to the public from January 30 through April 13, 2014 and features an eclectic collection of never-before exhibited works from talented fiber artists from around the world.

The quilts in the collection reflect the artists' interest in using their medium to give voice to a concern for either the world at large the environmental and/or political issues addressed by the works or to express feelings relevant to the particular quilt maker's inner world. For many of today's quilt makers, the graphic and technical elements are the foundations which support the primary concern the content of the quilt's message.

Join the Riffe Gallery for the opening of Quilt National '13 on January 30, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Quilt National '13 director Kathleen M. Dawson will lead a tour of the exhibition on January 31, from noon to 1 p.m.

On Sunday, February 23, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., participate in a Free Family Workshop with quilter Kate Gorman. Many of the Quilt National '13 quilters narrate stories through their works of art. In this workshop, children ages 617 are invited to tell their own stories on a small quilt top through drawings, doodles and words. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring an inspirational photo of a special place, person or pet. Registration is required as space is limited; all children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Register online between January 30 and February 19, 2014.

Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Stitch together snippets of poetic phrases and metaphors into a narrative poem with guest poet and workshop leader Katie Daley. Surrounded by inspiring quilts from the United States and beyond, we will quilt poems out of the scraps of surprising language we find daily in our lives and imaginations. Register online between February 28 and April 8, 2014. Riffe Gallery educational offerings are sponsored by OAC's Arts Learning Program. About the Riffe Gallery:
The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery showcases the work of Ohio artists and curators, and collections from the region's museums and galleries. The gallery is located in the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts at 77 S. High St., Columbus, Ohio. Admission is free. Gallery hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
