Ohio Arts Council Approves 83 Grants Totaling $416,375

During the Ohio Arts Council's April 8, 2013 board meeting, the OAC board approved the third round of grants for fiscal year 2013 and grant ratifications for fiscal years 2013 and 2012. The OAC will award 83 grants totaling $416,375 to support arts organizations, arts programs and artists across Ohio. These grants have not been announced previously. For FY2013, the OAC has received a total of 1,104 grant requests totaling $13,487,131 and has funded 557 of those requests at $8,222,990.
Organizations that receive OAC funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds.

FY 2013 Grant Award Recommendations
Individual Excellence Awards
Forty-seven (47) Individual Excellence Awards were approved totaling $230,000. Individual Excellence Awards are peer recognition of creative artists for the exceptional merit of a body of their work that advances or exemplifies the discipline and the larger artistic community. These awards support artists' growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond. Only applications in crafts, visual arts 2d, visual arts 3d, design, photography, media arts and interdisciplinary were accepted at the September 1, 2013 deadline.
FY 2013 Grant Award Ratifications
Ratifications are the board's final approval of funds allocated in various program areas since its September 27, 2012 meeting.
Artists with Disabilities Access
Fifteen (15) Artists with Disabilities Access grants were approved totaling $4,150. The Artists with Disabilities Access Program (ADAP) is designed to help artists with disabilities move to a higher level of artistic development.
Special - Organizations
Sixteen (16) special organization grants were approved for a total of $151,725. These grants support OAC grant programs with rolling deadlines, including Building Cultural Diversity and Artist Express as well as one-time special projects.
Special - Individuals
Three (3) special individual grants were approved for a total of $3,000. These grants include workshops, seminars and conferences for artists.
FY 2012 Grant Award Ratifications
The board ratified two special organization grants from 2012 for $27,500. These awards have not been announced previously.
Grant applications were reviewed by Ohio Arts Council staff and diverse panels of arts experts. The OAC board, consisting of 15 gubernatorial appointees and four nonvoting members from the Ohio legislature, makes final decisions based on panel recommendations.
