Ohio Arts Council Approves 60 Grants Totaling $265,050

During the Ohio Arts Council's spring board meeting, the OAC board approved the third round of grants for fiscal year 2012 and grant ratifications for fiscal years 2011 and 2010. The OAC will award 60 grants totaling $265,050 to support arts organizations, arts programs and artists across Ohio. These grants have not been announced previously. For FY2012, the OAC has received a total of 907 grant requests totaling $16,302,361 and has funded 491 of those requests at $6,343,025.

FY 2012 Grant Award Ratifications

Artists with Disabilities Access
Five (5) Artists with Disabilities Access grants were approved totaling $2,250. The Artists with Disabilities Access Program (ADAP) is designed to help artists with disabilities move to a higher level of artistic development.

Individual Excellence Awards
Thirty-seven (37) Individual Excellence Awards were approved totaling $185,000. Individual Excellence Awards are peer recognition of creative artists for the exceptional merit of a body of their work that advances or exemplifies the discipline and the larger artistic community. These awards support artists' growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond. Only applications in choreography, criticism, fiction/non-fiction, music composition, playwriting/screenplays, and poetry were accepted at the September 1, 2011 deadline.

Special Projects for Organizations
Fifteen (15) Special Projects for Organizations grants were approved for a total of $31,800. Special Projects grants include arts consultancies, fee support for presenters and one-time special projects for organizations.

FY 2010/2011 Grant Award Ratifications

Ratifications are the board's final approval of funds allocated in various program areas since its October 13, 2011 meeting. The board ratified one grant from 2011 for $25,000 and two grants from 2010 totaling $21,000. These awards have not been announced previously.

2011 ratification:

  • One (1) Special Projects for Organizations grant for $25,000

2010 ratification:

  • Two (2) Special Projects for Organizations grants for $21,000

Grant applications were reviewed by Ohio Arts Council staff and diverse panels of arts experts. The OAC board, consisting of 15 gubernatorial appointees and four nonvoting members from the Ohio legislature, makes final decisions based on panel recommendations.
