Ohio resident Francis Schanberger has been selected to create the 2011 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio from his Forces of Nature collection. Francis Schanberger received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California--San Diego. He then moved to Ohio to complete his Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Digital Imaging from The Ohio State University in 1993. He was a recipient of a 2003 Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship and was awarded an Individual Excellence Award in 2009. Even though photography is now his focus, Schanberger has not forgotten his scientific roots. A wonderful combination of art and chemistry was used to produce the Forces of Nature collection. He also has shown his photography throughout the United States and currently has three collections housed at the Worchester Art Museum in Worchester, Mass.; the University of California in San Diego, Calif.; and the Museet for Fotokunst in Odense, Denmark.
