Ohio Arts Council Announces Upcoming FY2011 Deadlines and Panel Meetings
by Stephanie Dawson

Each year the Ohio Arts Council provides matching money to support more than 1,000 arts organizations, arts programs and artists in the state. Upcoming application deadlines for OAC funds include:

November 12:

    Building Cultural Diversity monthly deadline

December 10:

    Building Cultural Diversity monthly deadline

December 15:

    Draft Deadline: Traditional Arts Apprenticeships

January 3:

    Draft Deadline: Sustainability

January 18:

Final Deadline: Traditional Arts Apprenticeships and Ohio Heritage Fellowships

The Building Cultural Diversity program provides grants to Ohio’s culturally diverse arts organizations for continuing programming or project support, or for short-term professional development of emerging minority arts administrators.

The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program keeps alive traditional and folk arts by supporting apprenticeships between master artists and dedicated apprentices. The folk and traditional arts grow out of particular cultures and are recognized as the artistic expressions of ethnic, linguistic, occupational or regional groups. Master artists preserve these traditions. Apprentices are Ohio residents who want to develop and continue these artistic expressions.

The Sustainability program provides general operating support to arts and cultural organizations across Ohio that make important contributions to the health and vitality of our communities.

The Ohio Heritage Fellowship program recognizes Ohio folk and traditional artists who are the finest and most influential masters of their particular art forms and traditions, and whose work in the folk and traditional arts have had a significant impact on the people and communities of the state. Awards are given in three categories: Performing Arts, Material Culture (e.g., folk art, folk crafts and folk architecture) and Community Leadership.

Applicants must use the OnLine Grant Applications (OLGA). All applications are due in the OAC office by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.

When a deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or state holiday, applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on the next business day.

Since 1965, the OAC has provided more than $270 million in grants to artists, arts organizations and educational programs across Ohio. Organizations that receive OAC funds are required to match state tax dollars with public and private funds. In general, for every state tax dollar invested, recipient organizations raise $52 in matching funds to support arts programs.
