This is a special year for the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). It marks our 45th anniversary! In recognition of this significant milestone, a celebration will take place at the Riffe Gallery in downtown Columbus on Wednesday, September 15, 2010. The hour-long event will begin at 11 a.m. with brief remarks by First Lady Frances Strickland, OAC Board member Charlotte Kessler and a few other special guests. “For the past 45 years, the Ohio Arts Council has taken its mission very seriously—to foster and encourage the development of the arts and the preservation of Ohio’s cultural heritage,” said OAC Executive Director Julie S. Henahan. “The evolution of the OAC over the last four-and-a-half decades has taken us from being merely an idea in the minds of Irma Lazarus and Senator Stanley Aronoff to one of the most highly-regarded state arts agencies in the country. We hope you will join us to celebrate this special day and take a moment to appreciate all that has been achieved in Ohio’s arts and cultural sector since 1965.” This is a great opportunity to commemorate nearly half a century of successful partnerships between the OAC and Ohio’s artists, arts institutions, schools and local policy makers. Please join us for an hour of fun, good conversation, great artwork and trips down memory lane! This event is free and open to the public. Please contact Amy McKay at 614/728-4463 or amy.mckay@oac.state.oh.us with any questions.
