Ohio Arts Council Relocating to Downtown Columbus
by Amy McKay

After spending 27 years in the historic, turn-of-the-century Dutch colonial at 727 E. Main St. in Columbus, the Ohio Arts Council is relocating. The state arts agency expects to move November 11, 2010 to the 33rd floor of the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in downtown Columbus.

The move will be a major cost-saving measure for the OAC amid challenging economic times for the state of Ohio. Annual costs for the new space will total approximately $10,000, saving the agency tens of thousands of dollars each year.

"We have loved being in this space, it has been like a home for all of us--the OAC staff and board and also our constituents," said OAC Executive Director Julie S. Henahan of the organization's current location. "However, we understand the situation the state is facing and we want to do our part to help reduce expenses."

The OAC is no stranger to downtown Columbus. Prior to 1983, the organization was located in the LeVeque Tower on West Broad Street. At the Rhodes Tower, located at 30 E. Broad St., OAC staff will be housed with approximately 4,000 other state employees, according to the Ohio Building Authority.
