The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), an independent federal agency, has awarded the Ohio Arts Council a $1,141,600 Partnership grant. The arts council is the sole Ohio agency designated to receive state partnership funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Ohio was awarded the second largest grant in the nation, exceeded only by the grant received by California. “We are always very happy to receive this annual support from the NEA not only because it will help to make the arts accessible to all Ohioans but also because it recognizes the important role arts and culture has in helping to rebuild the state as our economy recovers,” said Julie Henahan, executive director, Ohio Arts Council. NEA Partnership grants provide support to the 56 state, jurisdictional and territorial arts agencies, the six regional arts organizations, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and Pacific Resources for Education and Learning. Sixty-four grants were awarded in this category for a total of $57,719,600. State Partnership grants complement – not replace – state funding for arts programs, services and activities. The NEA is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education. Established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government, the Endowment is the nation's largest annual funder of the arts, bringing great art to all 50 states, including rural areas, inner cities and military bases. The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically. [top]
