Several Ohio Arts Council Programs on Funding Hiatus for FY2010 and 2011

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) will place several programs on a funding hiatus during the FY2010/2011 biennium and reduce one program to a single deadline. The International Partnership and Capacity Building programs will be on hiatus for FY2010, Arts Innovation and International Partnership for FY2011 and the Arts Access program will accept applications only at the March 1, 2010 deadline.
Due to the extreme economic situation in the state and nation, there have been continued reductions to the OAC’s budget. As a result the OAC needed to stretch its limited state funding, maintain services to the field and manage program activities after a 47 percent reduction in the OAC grant budget and a 40 percent reduction in OAC staffing from the beginning of the 2008/2009 biennium. The short-term solution is to place some programs on hiatus during the current biennium.
Capacity Building and International Partnerships are on hiatus for the current fiscal year 2010 (which began July 1, 2009 and ends June 30, 2010). The Capacity Building program supports established and emerging institutions to develop effective leadership, sound management practices, diverse financial resources and successful partnerships. Applications will be accepted again in FY2011 (July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011) and the online application will re-open for this program on June 1, 2010.
In addition, the Arts Innovation program will be on hiatus during FY2011. The Arts Innovation program supports organizations proposing imaginative projects that involve the production of new works of art that stretch the boundaries of conventional disciplines or forms, use unusual collaborations and program design, respond to new conditions or technologies, or promote access for new audiences in ground-breaking ways.
The International Partnership program will remain on hiatus through FY2011. The International Partnership Program provides a limited number of small grants to assist Ohio nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and universities and colleges to develop exemplary international arts projects and innovative partnerships with countries where the OAC or the state of Ohio has signed agreements or established collaborative partnership projects.
The Arts Access program will continue providing both operating and project support funding for small and emerging organizations as specified in the program's guidelines, but will accept applications at only the March 1, 2010 deadline rather than at both a spring and fall deadline as in recent years.
