The Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery presents VSA arts of Ohio’s Accessible Expressions exhibition until June 30 in the lobby of the Vern Riffe Center for the Government and the Arts. For more than 13 years, Accessible Expressions has been the only known statewide adjudicated art exhibition on tour for persons with disabilities. The work of more than 90 Ohio artists with disabilities was on display at the opening ceremony in February, hosted by the Westerville Community Center. A smaller portion of the exhibition is touring the state with stops in Columbus, Dayton, Sandusky, Xenia and other places. Accessible Expressions is a program of VSA arts of Ohio, an organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities, creatively and inclusively, through the arts. Since 1986, VSA arts of Ohio has provided opportunities for artists and audiences of diverse abilities to share their creativity through education, accessibility, professional development and outreach programs. New Narratives: Paintings by Ohio Artists is currently on view in the Riffe Gallery. Curated by Dominique H. Vasseur, Columbus Museum of Art, this exhibition explores the various themes and styles of narrative painting by 12 Ohio contemporary artists ranging from traditional figurative compositions to others using signs and symbols.
