Ohio Arts Council Approves 11 Grants Totaling $43,915

At a public meeting on September 25 the Council Board approved the second round of grants for fiscal year 2009. The Ohio Arts Council will award 11 grants totaling $43,915 to support arts organizations and arts programs across Ohio. Together, with grants awarded at the June 30 meeting, the Board has approved 491 grants for a total of $7,920,455 after reviewing 560 grant requests totaling $16,777,592. Recommendations to the Board were made by advisory panels that reviewed applications throughout the spring.
Organizations that receive OAC funds are required to match state tax dollars with additional public and private funds. In general, for every state tax dollar invested, $45 is raised in matching funds by recipient organizations.

Artists with Disabilities Access
Five (5) Artists with Disabilities Access grants were approved totaling $2,125. The Artists with Disabilities Access Program (ADAP) is designed to help artists with disabilities move to a higher level of artistic development.
Capacity Building
Three (3) Capacity Building grants were awarded for a total of $7,525. The program provides funds to strengthen Ohio’s nonprofit arts and cultural sector by helping organizations improve internal governance and leadership, cultivate strategic community linkages and develop financial and human resources for long-term stability.
Special Organizations
Three (3) Special Organizations grants were approved for a total of $34,265.
2008 Grant Award Ratifications
Ratifications are the Board’s final approval of funds allocated in various program areas since its June 30, 2008 meeting. The Board ratified 4 grants from 2008 totaling $62,400. These awards have not been announced previously.
The 2008 ratifications included:
• Four (4) Special Organizations grants for $62,400

Grant applications were reviewed last winter and spring by panels of arts experts and Ohio Arts Council staff. The Council Board, consisting of 15 gubernatorial appointees and four nonvoting members from the Ohio legislature, makes final decisions based on panel recommendations.
The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
