Governor Ted Strickland has appointed Mary Lazarus of Columbus to the Ohio Arts Council Board. Lazarus is a longtime community activist and serves on several boards in the community. “We are very pleased with Governor Strickland’s recent appointment,” said OAC Executive Director Julie Henahan. “Mary Lazarus has been a champion to the community and she will bring a great deal of enthusiasm and experience to our board.” Lazarus serves on the Board of Trustees of the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio and the Advisory Committee of the Academy of Leadership and Governance of the Jefferson Center. She previously has served as a trustee and president on the Board of Action Children, trustee and Capital Campaign chair of Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio, trustee and president of Thurber House and was a founder, trustee and chair of the Columbus Metropolitan Club. She also was a trustee of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Lazarus has received the YWCA Women of Achievement Award, the Democracy in Action Award from the League of Women Voters and the Champion of Children Award from the Columbus Montessori Education Center. She is a graduate of Wellesley College. The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
