Powerful, Vibrant Music of The Andes Mountains To Tour Ohio
by Jaclyn Reynolds

Andes Manta photo courtesy of Annie Tiberio CameronAndes Manta presents a truly enchanting evening of traditional South American music during a performance series in Ohio communities this fall. Andes Manta is touring the state as part of the Ohio Arts Council’s Fall International Music and Performing Arts in Communities Tour (IMPACT).

Andes Manta will perform six shows, November 2-16, 2007. Performance locations include Bellefontaine, Troy, Jackson, Greenville, Steubenville and Newark. All performances are free and open to the public.

Andes Manta features the four Lopez brothers; Fernando, Luis, Bolivar and Jorge. Each brother learned to play Andean music as is traditional; passed down from father to son, brother to brother. Andes Manta plays 35 musical instruments, all of which have been mastered by all the brothers, who are native to the Ecuadorian Andes.

Fall IMPACT will feature educational outreach programs in each community in addition to the performances. For more information visit the Ohio Arts Council Web site at www.oac.state.oh.us, call 614/466-2613 or e-mail kathy.cain@oac.state.oh.us. IMPACT is presented by the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) in partnership with the Ohio Arts Presenters Network (OAPN).

Since 1998, IMPACT has been bringing international artists to Ohio each fall for a statewide tour of places of worship. Fall IMPACT exposes new audiences to art forms from around the world through performances and festivals that unite communities around the state. IMPACT is designed to bring the best international performing arts groups to audiences in Ohio.

The Ohio Arts Council and the Ohio Arts Presenters Network began their unique partnership in 1998 with the presentation of Barocco Andino, a Chilean music ensemble. In following years, the OAC brought international artists, Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre, Viva Quetzal, Cuerdas de Fuego, Real Tango, Eblen Macari Trio and El Arranque Tango Orchestra to Ohio for a statewide tour of churches and synagogues. In 2004, the OAC initiated the Summer IMPACT with performances of Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre at festivals throughout the state and continued with America Indigena in 2005, Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra in 2006 and this year’s performance; Barynya Russian Music and Dance Ensemble.

The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
