Governor Strickland Appoints New Ohio Arts Council Board Members

Governor Ted Strickland has announced the appointments of Susan Saxbe of Columbus, Tom Schorgl of Cleveland, Lois Rosenthal of Cincinnati and the reappointment of Geraldine Warner of Cincinnati to the Ohio Arts Council.

“We are very pleased with Governor Strickland’s recent appointments,” said OAC Executive Director Julie Henahan. “Each person brings a great deal of talent and experience to the board.”

Susan Saxbe has been appointed the new chair of the Ohio Arts Council board. She is a self-employed fine arts consultant in Columbus and was formerly an arts consultant for Winning Images. Saxbe served as a co-chair for the Ohio Arts Council’s agency review on the Strickland Transition Team. Since February 2007 she has served on the executive committee of the Friends of the Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Arts from OSU’s College of Art Education.

Tom Schorgl is president and CEO of the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture in Cleveland. He is a former executive director of the Indiana Arts Commission and holds master’s degrees in the arts from the University of Iowa and Miami University.

Lois Rosenthal of Cincinnati is co-director of Uptown Arts and a former consumer columnist for The Cincinnati Enquirer. She was also an editor for Story from 1989-2000 and serves on the board of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the President’s Advisory Council of Xavier University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Geraldine Warner is also from Cincinnati. She serves as a board member for several arts and community organizations around Cincinnati. She is also a member of the Cincinnati Women’s Club and the Cincinnati Art Museum Founders Society. She holds a law degree from the New York University School of Law.

The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
