POSITION OPENING: Director, Office of Arts Learning STATE CLASSIFICATION: Fine Arts Administrator, PCN 2.6 This is an Exempt position. This vacancy may be filled by promotion within the agency. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:
- Develops and manages all aspects of the Office of Arts Learning and implements agency goals to meet performance targets outlined in the OAC Strategic Plan.
- Provides information and technical assistance for individual artists, minority populations, schools, non-profit organizations and governmental entities.
- Organizes professional development opportunities for constituents.
- Develops and sustains strategic partnerships with the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, and other state programs and agencies, statewide organizations, regional and national organizations, and private sector individuals to advance agency mission.
- Identifies and develops resources for constituents who provide arts learning experiences for all ages.
- Manages the design, publication and distribution of all OAL printed and electronic materials, and provides program information for the OAC Web site.
- Represents the OAC at agency events and state, regional and national meetings. Serves as a liaison between the OAC and these entities on policy and program development.
- Contributes to agency grant writing for public and private funds.
- Supports an environment of teamwork and shared goals.
- Ensures the OAC’s compliance with all state and federal legal and regulatory requirements and guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have (but are not limited to) knowledge and skill in the following areas:
- Broad and specific knowledge and understanding of the arts, arts education, arts management and public policy in the arts;
- Ability to communicate clearly, persuasively, diplomatically and creatively with artists, arts administrators, education and non-profit personnel, sponsors, state agency personnel, legislators and the federal government;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Skill in public speaking and experience in providing arts information to public audiences by conducting workshops and training sessions;
- Strong working knowledge of program evaluation, current research about the arts and arts learning, public value and arts participation concepts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies;
- Skill in word processing, presentation and database applications;
- Interviewing and supervisory techniques and regulations;
- Understanding of diversity at all levels;
- Budget development, including knowledge of fiscal controls and management;
- Assisting in agency fundraising, including knowledge of outside funding sources, funding trends and application processes;
- Governmental relations, including knowledge of state and federal government structure, processes and regulations; and
- Knowledge of the field, including knowledge of the arts and humanities, education, nonprofit organizations, local, state and federal government structures.
MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of fine arts or humanities; budgeting; management*; labor relations*; employee training & development; public relations; human relations*. Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific course of action; comprehend & discuss highly abstract material; resolve complaints from angry citizens & officials. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of graduate core program in fine arts or humanities; 6 months experience as supervisor or manager or fine arts coordinator/director with budgeting experience.
- Or 6 months experience as Fine Arts Specialist 3, 64813.
- Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the Major Worker Characteristics noted above.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Hourly rate $26.08, Pay range 14, plus applicable State of Ohio benefits.
