OAC FUNDING PROGRAM SUNSETTED
by Jami Goldstein

Beginning July 1, 2005, the Ohio Arts Council will no longer accept applications in the category of Special Opportunity Grants (sometimes referred to as Sudden Opportunity Grants or Emergency Grants). More than 90% of the grants requests in that category were received in the month of June immediately preceding the beginning of the OAC’s new fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) leaving little money for the rest of the year.

Former applicants to this funding category are encouraged to examine the Arts Access Program which has two deadlines per year: March 1 and September 1. The Arts Access program provides funding of up to $3,000 for organizational applicants who are new to the OAC and for previously funded grantees with budgets under $25,000 (The maximum amount of funding allowable in Sudden Opportunity was $2000). Grants must be matched 1:1, preferably with a cash match.
