OHIO ARTS COUNCIL POSITION OPENING: Special Events Coordinator This is an Exempt position. JOB DUTIES: Acts for the Public Information Officer: plans, writes & implements public information office goals for special events & projects; leads/monitors agency &/or local committees, e.g., Governor's Awards for the Arts, Annual Conference; serves as liaison between Public Information Officer & subordinates; transmits decisions & directives of Public Information Officer; represents Public Information Officer at meetings & conferences; assumes responsibility & authority for special events & projects in Public Information Officer's absence; formulates & implements policy for special events & projects, e.g., Governor's Awards for the Arts. Analyzes & evaluates special events & projects & related public information office procedures & policies; provides technical advice to aid Public Information Officer & Executive Director in decision making related to special events & projects planning & development. Develops & coordinates public relations programs for special events & projects: researches & responds to inquiries & complaints; furnishes information & explains special events & projects to public, legislators & news media; writes grant proposals & reports for special events & projects; makes speeches & drafts news releases. Manages business function of special events & projects for public information office; prepares & administers special events & projects budgets, (e.g., establishes & oversees maintenance of fiscal controls, authorizes expenditures & purchases); prepares important documents (e.g., grant proposals, final reports), correspondence, & publications. MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS: Knowledge of supervisory principles/techniques; business administration, management science or public administration; employee training & development*; interviewing*; public relations; budgeting. Ability to handle sensitive telephone & face-to-face inquiries & contacts with public & government; write letters, papers, reports & speeches & deliver speeches before general public; develop complex reports & position papers; define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; gather, collate & classify information according to established methods; establish friendly atmosphere as supervisor of work unit.
