Governor Taft Appoints Ohio Arts Council Members

Governor Bob Taft has announced the reappointment of Joseph Hale and the appointments of Raymond Tymas-Jones and Neal F. Zimmers, Jr. to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) Board.

“We are very pleased with Governor Taft’s latest appointments to the Ohio Arts Council Board,” said Wayne Lawson, OAC Executive Director. “We’re delighted with Joe Hale’s reappointment and know that both Raymond Tymas-Jones and Neal Zimmers will bring similar talent and energies to the board.”

Joseph Hale, from Cincinnati, was reappointed to a term ending July 1, 2009. He has been an OAC board member since 1999. Hale currently serves as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Cinergy Corp and helped the company receive numerous awards including Forbes magazine sponsored Business Committee for the Arts national award. He is on the boards of Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Downtown Cincinnati Inc. and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Hale received a B.A. from Hanover College and completed graduate work at Indiana University, Butler University and the Harvard Institute of Arts Management.

Raymond Tymas-Jones, from The Plains, near Athens, was appointed to a term ending July 1, 2009. He serves as the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University. Tymas-Jones was a member of the Board of Directors for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans until 2001. He is currently chairperson of the Executive Development and Leadership Ad Hoc Committee for the organization. He received a Bachelor of Music from Howard University and a Master of Music and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Washington University at St. Louis.

Neal F. Zimmers, Jr., from Dublin, was appointed to a term ending July 1, 2009. He is a past legislative appointee to the OAC and served 20 years as State Senator. Zimmers received a B.A. from Denison University and attended The George Washington University Law School where he earned a J.D. degree. He currently serves as President of NFZ & Associates, a governmental affairs consulting company, and Resident Vice President of CSX Corporation. Zimmers is a member of the Tiffin University Board of trustees, the Capitol Square Foundation and the Governing Board of the Dayton Heart Hospital.

The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
