Additional support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Since its inception six years ago, El Arranque has quickly earned an international reputation as the most important young tango orchestra in the world today. The El Arranque Tango Orchestra has been working to preserve the rich tradition of orchestral tango and carry it forward into the world. With touring experience in more than 100 cities worldwide, El Arranque has arranged Concerto Grosso, written by first violinist Ramiro Gallo, for seven tango musicians and a symphony. This is their second major musical collaboration, the first being a series of concerts at Lincoln Center with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra directed by Wynton Marsalis. In those sold-out concerts, the two orchestras premiered Gallo´s Suite Borgeana, written in seven movements, and a concerto written by Marsalis for the two orchestras. This collaboration received critical acclaim from the New York Times and will be performed on tour. The new work by Gallo in development with El Arranque brings the very best of tango´s rich tradition to the symphony arena with complex arrangements, stunning solos, and unique rhythms. This project offers the opportunity to introduce tango music to a wider audience through the greatness of the symphonic sound. El Arranque also incorporates an educational component in their tours and a commitment to cultural exchange in their compositions. In March 2004, El Arranque won the Carlos Gardel award for Best Tango Recording. This is the Argentine version of a Grammy in the U.S. Since 1998, IMPACT has been bringing international artists to Ohio each fall for a statewide tour of places of worship. IMPACT is designed to bring the best international performing arts groups to audiences in the midwest. IMPACT will feature educational outreach programs in addition to the performances. In following years, the OAC brought international artists Ragamala Music and Dance Theatre, Viva Quetzal, Cuerdas de Fuego, Real Tango, Eblen Macari Trio and Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre of New Zealand to Ohio for a statewide tour of churches and synagogues. The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally and economically.
