2006 Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio

Award Artists

Sue Cavanaugh Sue Cavanaugh

Sue is a fiber artist living in Columbus. The awards are from her series of basket and vessel work inspired by markets in Mexico. Cavanaugh’s work with quilting began in 1999 when she saw a Linda Fowler exhibit which inspired her to design her first piece. She now dyes her own fabric and is drawn to the markings made through stitch-resisted shibori. She has exhibited work in various museums throughout Ohio, including the Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery in The Quilted Surface II:International Contemporary Art Quilts by Quilt Surface Design Symposium Participants.
