Going Global: Expanding Cultural Collaborations for the Ohio Arts Council

At a time when America faces formidable challenges in conveying its values to other nations and peoples, it is imperative to find ways to communicate, to build bridges, and to create bastions of shared understanding that will resist global strife and violence. A unique opportunity to build global understanding and create sustainable programs came in 2002, when the U. S. Department of Education provided a grant to the Ohio Arts Council.

Over the course of three years the resulting project, Going Global: Expanding Cultural Collaborations for the Ohio Arts Council, fostered more than 48 distinctive projects, across four continents, involved eight nations; included partnerships among 35 organizations; involved more than 180 artists, scholars, administrators, and educators as participants; and resulted in more than 40 exhibitions, lectures, seminars, monographs, exhibitions catalogs, books, articles, performances, media broadcasts and public meetings.
