We are classically trained musicians. Our goals are to inspire our students to being receptive to new sounds and feeling confident to create new sounds for themselves. We especially enjoy working with upper elementary, middle school or special needs communities. We have worked in residency with students creating music to the Haiku poetry they have written. We have also brought history to life through the demonstrations of some of the instruments in our collections representing many cultures. Virginia has taught flute through the use of replica Native American flutes with students, while Tim has taught drumming techniques.
The Echowood Duo has delighted audiences from kindergarten through senior citizens in venues from schools and churches to outdoor concerts, conventions and libraries. Our usual performance is informal with verbal program notes and stories to augment the music. Inspiration for our work is gained through collaborations with other artists, our orchestral playing and from our respective professional organizations.
We have been professional musicians for over 25 years. We have learned our art via study with many premier teachers and playing under extremely talented orchestral conductors. We each received Music Education degrees from Baldwin-Wallace College. Virginia went on to the Cleveland Institute of Music where she was awarded a Master's Degree in Flute. Tim received his Master's Degree from The Ohio State University. Tim is a member of the Ohio Music Educators Association and the Percussive Arts Society. Virginia is a member of the National Flute Association and the International Native American Flute Association.
