QUILTS AND QUOTES (CON'T)

The book provides a legacy for Columbus through which subsequent generations will be able to sense the diversity of cultural, ethnic and artistic traditions that converged here to create a vibrant American city. The Public Book is made possible with support from the Columbus Foundation, the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Yassenoff Foundation.

Two events will be held in conjunction with this exhibition; Thursday, December 5, 2002, 12-1 pm. Hilary Fletcher, project director for Quilt National, will present a lecture and tour. Fletcher will discuss the relationship between time-honored quilting practices and the art quilt movement.

Sunday, January 12, 2003, 2-4 pm. Family Day with Linda Fowler. Children of all ages and their adult companions are invited to join quilt artist Linda Fowler to create a unique fabric collage. Materials will be provided. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information or to schedule a tour call the Riffe Gallery at 614/644-9624.

EASTERN EUROPEAN ARTISTS AND ARTS MANAGER VISIT OHIO

The Ohio Arts Council, Cleveland Institute of Art and Otterbein College will participate in the ArtsLink/OAC Residency Program from October 30 through December 4, 2002. The program offers funding to Ohio arts organizations to develop residencies with arts managers and artists from Eastern and Central European countries.

The goal of the residencies is to create opportunities for artists and arts managers to exchange ideas, perspectives and techniques with host institutions and expand dialogue among artists. Many of the participants will have opportunities to work with equipment and technology not available in their home countries.

The Ohio Arts Council's resident arts manager will be Janka Vukmir, director of the Institute for Contemporary Art in Zagreb, Croatia. Vukmir will work with a variety of programs at the OAC including the Individual Artist Program, Visual Arts Program, Performing Arts on Tour Program and the OAC's Riffe Gallery. During her residency, she hopes to learn more about American methods of marketing and audience development.

Jelena Peric, also from Croatia, will be an artist in residence at Otterbein College. Peric is a graduate of Zagreb's Academy of Fine Arts and produces wall and installation work. The Cleveland Institute of Art will host Daniela Kostova, an installation and video artist from Bulgaria. Kostova is a graduate of the Bulgarian National Academy of Art.

Major funding for the Ohio Artslink program is provided by the Kettering Fund. Artslink is a public-private partnership of CEC International Partners, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Trust for Mutual Understanding and the Ohio Arts Council with additional funding from the Howard Gilman Foundation, the Kettering Fund and the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation.
