  Reality Check: Representational Objects in Unlikely Media will be on view September 9-October 28 at the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus. The exhibition re-examines realism in contemporary crafts and features 40 objects, manipulated to create unexpected effects. For more information call 614/486-4402.

Ovation Theatre Company will present J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Rings September 20-29 at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati. The adaptation includes innovative costuming and puppetry, creative casting and music composed specifically for the production. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. For more information call 513/369-1544.

  On July 28 in New York City, Barbara Robinson, chair emeritus of the Ohio Arts Council, was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award at pARTicipate2001, a joint conference of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and Americans for the Arts. The award honors individuals whose outstanding service, creative thinking and leadership have had a significant impact on the field of public support for the arts. Robinson served as chair of the Ohio Arts Council for 13 years.

The Wallace Reader's Digest Funds and an advisory board of arts leaders and funding partners have developed a website for individuals and organizations committed to promoting new ideas and practices in the arts. OHIO ARTISTS FEATURED ON PBS SERIES
ART:21 - ART IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY, a four-part series featuring 21 American artists who are defining the visual arts, will premiere September 21 and 28 on PBS. The first broadcast series to focus exclusively on contemporary visual art and artists in America, ART:21 offers a unique glimpse into the artists' sources of inspiration and creative processes. Each episode will examine a specific theme - Place, Spirituality, Identity and Consumption. Ohio installation artist Ann Hamilton will be featured on the Spirituality episode; and sculptor, architect and Athens native Maya Lin will be featured on the Identity episode. Place airs 9-10 p.m. and Spirituality airs 10-11 p.m. on September 21; Identity airs 9-10 p.m. and Consumption airs 10-11 p.m. on September 28.
