El Milenio Latino, the 9th annual Ohio Latino Arts Association Conference, will take place June 16 at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The conference will include drum and mask making workshops, outreach and funding discussions, traditional dance performances, museum tours and more. Workshops are designed for the whole family. The 36th annual Crosby Festival of the Arts will take place June 23-24 from 10am-6pm at the Toledo Botanical Gardens. The Crosby Festival, the oldest juried art fair in Ohio, features fine art and fine crafts in ten different media. For more information call 419/936-2986.

Noteworthy.

  Maestro Jesús López-Cobos, music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, has been awarded the highest honor in the fields of arts and letters by the governments of Spain and France. López-Cobos, now in his 15th and final season with the orchestra, was presented with the Medallo de Oro de las Bellas Artes in Spain on May 29. The French Ministry of Culture named López-Cobos an officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.

Names in the News.

David Wittkowsky, executive director of the Cleveland Film Society, which produces the Cleveland International Film Festival, has announced his resignation effective June 30. Wittkowsky will pursue positions in both the nonprofit and for profit sectors and will consult with the CFS on strategic planning and programming for the 26th CIFF. Marcie Goodman, managing director of the CFS, will succeed Wittkowsky as executive director July 1.

Cheri Mitchell has been named executive director of BalletMet Columbus. Mitchell was formerly BalletMet's director of finance and marketing. Prior to joining the ballet, Mitchell served as managing director of the Contemporary American Theatre Company.

The Center for Contemporary Music at Cuyahoga Community College will present Teaching Jazz, a three-day seminar for music educators July 17,19 and 20 from 9-4, at the college's Metropolitan Campus.
