Eight winners have been selected for the 2001 Governor's Awards for the Arts in Ohio. Winners were selected in seven categories from more than 100 nominations. Awards will be presented at a luncheon honoring winners and members of the Ohio Legislature hosted by the Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation March 14 at The Columbus Athenaeum, 32 North Fourth Street in downtown Columbus. Registration begins at 11 a.m., guests will be seated at 11:30, the awards program will begin at noon. Winners will receive an original work by ceramic artist Angelica Pozo. Passion Works Studio of Athens is creating the table centerpieces. Glenda A. Hatchett is this year's keynote speaker. Award categories and recipients are: Arts Administration, Donn Vickers, The Thurber House, Columbus; Arts in Education, Gary DeVault, Tri-County Educational Service Center, Wooster; Arts Outreach, Parade the Circle Celebration, Cleveland; Arts Patron, Richard P. Anderson, Maumee; two winners in Business Support of the Arts: Kewpee Hamburger, Lima and The Mead Corporation, Dayton; Individual Artist, Wayne Dodd, Athens; Partnerships in the Arts, Village of Crooksville. OAC APPOINTS APPALACHIAN FIELD OFFICERSArtists and arts organizations in Ohio's 29 Appalachian counties can now contact the Ohio Arts Council right in their own back yard. The OAC has created a Southern Ohio field office to help facilitate community planning of arts and crafts programs in Ohio's Appalachian region. Donna Sue Groves, a native Appalachian and energetic arts advocate who has been working in the region for five years, has been named Southern Ohio field coordinator for the OAC Appalachian Arts Program. Groves will provide OAC grant writing assistance and help connect artists and arts organizations in the region with other funding opportunities. She will continue to locate artists in the area to help them promote themselves at festivals and area events. (CONT'D. PAGE 3) |
