  Toledo Opera has named Renay Conlin as general director. She has been commissioner of the Division of Culture and History in West Virginia. Conlin studied singing at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University and the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau in Paris. She has had a successful career as a performer in addition to experience in leadership and fund raising in the arts.

The Ohio Arts Council presented awards to 13 artists at the opening of the Fine Arts Exhibition at the Ohio State Fair. The exhibition features work by amateur and professional Ohio artists. Winners in the amateur category were Andrea L. Stern of Chauncey and William E. Stueve of Dayton. Professional artist winners included Rebecca Harvey, Columbus; Gerry Fogarty, Yellow Springs; Mary Pearse, Columbus; Lana Lowenkamp, Beachwood; Brian Joiner, Cincinnati; Paula Woodson, Columbus; Phyllis Kohring Fannin, Lakewood; Kenneth P. Gibb, Bowling Green; Linda Gall, Zanesville; Tim Brown, Columbus; and Dawn Marr, Bowling Green.

The Cimelice Residency Program encourages independent artistic creation and the open exchange of ideas and experiences. Cimelice is a small historical village 80 kilometers southwest of Prague. The baroque castle was built in 1728-1730 by the Italian architect Antonio Canevalle.

The Ohio Arts Council's International Program is recognized as a leader in cultural arts exchanges among U.S. state arts agencies. Designed to foster long-term involvement in international cultural exchanges, the International Program encourages Ohio artists and arts organizations to form partnerships with arts professionals abroad. The International Program provides grants to help nonprofit educational, cultural and arts organizations, individual artists, performers, educators, arts managers and administrators develop exemplary international arts projects and innovative partnerships that increase Ohioans' access to international arts activities.
