As part of an exchange between the Ohio Arts Council and the Czech Republic three Ohio artists are in residence at Cimelice Castle as part of the Cimelice Residency Program from August 1 through September 30. The Ohio Arts Council's International Program and the Center for Contemporary Arts-Prague are sponsoring the exchange.

Ohio artists participating in the exchange are Kathleen Browne and Stephen Litchfield, both from Ravenna, and Mary Jo Toles from Cleveland.

Kathleen Browne is a metalsmith and jeweler and associate professor in the School of Art at Kent State University. Her jewelry, sculpture and hollowware are exhibited widely in museums and galleries across the United States. She has received several OAC Individual Artist Fellowships. Browne earned an MFA in metalsmithing at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Stephen Litchfield is a sculptor and assistant professor in the School of Art at Kent State University and the University of Akron. He disassembles, alters and reassembles manufactured wooden items into revised versions of the originals. Litchfield's work is included in the Kohler Company Collection, Wisconsin, and the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American Art, Visual Artist Archive in Washington DC. Litchfield earned an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Mary Jo Toles is a professor of photography and video at the Cleveland Institute of Art and area head for the video studios department at CIA. Her work has been exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC and the MIT List Visual Art Center in Boston. Toles' work is in the permanent collections of the Cranbrook Museum of Art, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the American Medical Association. She earned an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

SIGN UP NOW FOR OAC CONFERENCE

Individual artists and arts administrators may register now for the Ohio Arts Council's 2000 Conference, Get Your Arts in Gear, at the Hyatt on Capitol Square in Columbus, October 5-7. Workshops and panel discussions will be geared toward arts administrators or individual artists.

Presentations for administrators will focus on marketing, development and arts in education issues. Sessions for individual artists will include artists and the Internet, artists' taxes, contracts and marketing art. Individual artist sessions will encompass the visual arts, performing arts and literature.
