  The Wexner Center for the Arts has appointed internationally renowned contemporary art curator and critic Carlos Basualdo as chief curator of exhibitions. A native of Rosario, Argentina, he has lived in the United States for seven years and has been involved in the contemporary art world for the past decade.

  David Barker and Susan Sofia, both of Columbus, and Sheila Markley of Canton have been reappointed by Governor Bob Taft to serve on the Ohio Arts Council Board until July 1, 2005.

NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR A GOVERNOR'S AWARD
  Nomination forms are available for the 2001 Governor's Awards for the Arts, given to individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions to the arts. Deadline for nominations is October 25. Awards are given for arts administration, arts in education, arts patron, arts outreach, business support of the arts, individual artist and partnerships in the arts. Awards will be presented at the Governor's Awards and Arts Day Luncheon March 14, 2001, at The Columbus Athenaeum. Semi-competitive grants will be available for organizations with budgets under $50,000. They must put up matching funds or in-kind services equaling 25 percent of the total award. Arts councils can use the funds to obtain or upgrade office equipment, access research data and develop human and financial resources.

"Representative Kaptur is a champion for the arts in Northwest Ohio," said Wayne Lawson, executive director of the Ohio Arts Council. "The funding she was able to secure from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will develop a strong arts infrastructure in Northwest Ohio. Communities that participate in this initiative will have opportunities to place the arts at the heart of community and economic development."
