President Clinton has requested a $150 million budget appropriation for the National
Endowment for the Arts for FY 2000, a significant $52-million increase over the agency's
current budget of $98 million. 
Later this month, Bill Ivey, NEA chairman, will unveil details of a major $50-million proposal, Challenge America, to encourage a wide range of partnerships that use the arts to help build vibrant communities.
"We welcome President Clinton's strong and consistent support for the National Endowment for the Arts," Ivey said. "The new millennium provides the perfect opportunity for our nation to increase its commitment to strengthening our communities through the power of the arts."
During the three previous
years, the president requested Arts Endowment budget appropriations of $136 million each
year.
The Wexner Center for the Arts is accepting entries for its fourth annual Ohio Short Film and Video Showcase, to be held May 8 at the Wexner Center. Submitted works must have been independently produced, be no longer than 20 minutes and have been produced in Ohio within the last 18 months. Entries must be on 1/2-inch VHS videotape.
