Hamilton was born in Lima, Ohio, in 1956 and earned an MFA at Yale School of Art in 1985. She has received Guggenheim, Tiffany and National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a Wexner Center for the Arts Residency Award. Her work is included in collections of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art; Miami Art Museum; Musee d'Art Contemporain, Lyon, France; Musee d'Art Contemporain de Montreal; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate Gallery, London; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

The Venice Biennale is the oldest and most prestigious contemporary international art exposition. Hamilton is the third woman to represent the United States in a one-person exhibition at the Biennale. The U.S. Pavilion is one of more than 30 free-standing pavilions that represent countries from Europe, North and South America, the Far East and Australia.

Girl Reading a Letter, Her Head Resting on Her Hand, Count Pietro RotariDresden in the Ages of Splendor and Enlightenment: 18th-Century Paintings from the Old Masters Picture Gallery is at the Columbus Museum of Art through October 24. The exhibition celebrates the creation and collection of paintings in Dresden, one of the great artistic centers of Europe. The 76 paintings drawn from Dresden's legendary Old Masters Picture Gallery include cityscapes, landscapes, portraits and religious and allegorical scenes by such masters as Canaletto, Bellotto, Tiepolo, Largillierre, Watteau and Anton Raphael Mengs. New And Noteworthy

Senator Mike DeWine has been appointed to the National Council on the Arts, which oversees the National Endowment for the Arts. DeWine (R-OH) replaces Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) in one of the three seats reserved for Senators.

The Dream Catcher, a locally produced road drama about two delinquent teen-agers who hitchhike from Dayton to Reno, had its world premiere at the fifth annual Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in April, where it won the Audience Award for Best Director. The emotionally involving film was acclaimed for its honesty, subtle direction, strong performances and stunning cinematography. Ed Radtke, director of the film, and producers Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert are all Ohio Arts Council Fellowship recipients.
