TThe first Regional Convening of Appalachian Ohio Community Festivals will be held at Hocking College in Nelsonville on Saturday April 5. The Ohio Arts Council, the Appalachian Ohio Reinvestment Corporation, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio and Hocking College are partnering to provide this regional opportunity for art festival presenters and promoters to exchange information, attend workshops and to learn about organizational resources available for support of community festivals. A registration fee of $25 covers cost of materials and lunch. For more information call 740/753-1111 or email llily@ffao.org.
The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) is presenting its Midday Music series, featuring lunchtime performances by students, Wednesdays at 12:30 through April 30 (no concert on March 12). The free 45-minute concerts provide soothing respite from the business day. Bring a lunch and enjoy a variety of short solo and chamber music selections at Le Pavillon on the CIM campus in University Circle. For more information call 216/791-5000 or visit www.cim.edu.
OAC UPDATING APPALACHIAN ARTISTS DIRECTORY
In 1998 the Ohio Arts Council compiled a directory entitled Ohio's Appalachian Arts and Crafts Resources. The directory served as a comprehensive listing of Appalachian artists and craftspeople and was distributed statewide to people who were looking for artists to perform and exhibit at festivals and other community events. Thanks to funding from the Governor's Office of Appalachia, the OAC now has the opportunity to update the directory.
The OAC has developed an electronic database to house the contact information for hundreds of artists in the region. Future plans include the addition of organizational resources in the region and an online directory that will be searchable by the public. The switch from a print to an online directory will eliminate printing and mailing expenses.
To request an application form for the directory, contact Dan Katona at 1-888-243-8622 or dan.katona@oac.state.oh.us. The form also can be downloaded from the OAC website at www.oac.state.oh.us.
