I am a painter, sculptor, illustrator, writer and multimedia designer. I believe that anybody can learn the skills to complete a work of art. Artists are not "gifted" individuals among us, but regular people with a set of learned skills, training, and a passion and need to communicate and present their ideas to others. I am particularly interested in working with youth ranging from middle to high school age as well as adults in either school- or community-based residencies. In partnership with students/apprentices, I have created paintings, large murals, cement sculptures, illustrated books, and designed school/community gardens.
Currently, I am working in large format oil-on-canvas pieces, public art commissions, as well as, book illustration. My work has been awarded and collected nationally and internationally. I show my work at national and international galleries and festivals, and also enjoy doing presentations, workshops and painting demonstrations.
I graduated from the University of Havana with a major in English Language and Literature. I have also studied sculpture, ceramics, costume design for theatre and cinema, classical drawing and painting since I was 8 years old. I have been exhibiting my art professionally for more than 20 years. I was the founder and main teacher of the "Taller Infantil", at 23 & 12 Art Center in Havana; and also the co-founder of the multimedia company "2 Pasos." My poems have been published in magazines such as Kastello, and Hojas Literarias, Spain. I have participated as a costume and float designer at different carnivals in Cuba and also at Parade The Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. I have written and illustrated short stories for children and activities guides, assisted in landscape designs of public places, public art and community art program coordination. I am also a teaching artist and member of Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio.
