I am a filmmaker and screenwriter. My goal is to inspire people to learn how to tell their own stories. I enjoy working with at-risk youth, as well as youth that are not so at risk. I've worked with middle and high school aged students, and adults. I've worked in both schools and community-based residencies. Residencies are planned to gain an understanding of the art form, and also to support school curriculum and the Fine Arts Academic Content Standards. In a recent residency, students in a history class wanted to explore the meaning of diversity in American society. Together, we developed a narrative story. The story was filmed by the class, and eventually became the centerpiece of the school's first citywide film festival. The medium I work with is very conducive to a creative, hands-on, in-depth residency.
My personal artistic work isn't necessarily for children; however, my experiences working in television, film and various residencies are something I share. I am also a screenwriter, and my work is currently in screenplay competitions. Additionally, I have a body of work from other residencies, which are easily shared and understood by all ages. I am currently putting together a residency to take place in a museum to bring in children who typically wouldn't visit museums.
I have been a filmmaker for more than 10 years. I've learned my art from wonderful, knowledgeable instructors, and on the sets of various television programs in Los Angeles, and on the many films on which I've worked. I started out learning about film and video at a local public access channel. I then attended film school Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. I received a BFA in Motion Pictures Production. I've worked on several episodic television shows in Los Angeles. My personal work has been shown in film festivals across the country and been awarded for its artistic merits. I am currently adjunct staff for several video classes at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, Ohio.
