Trained predominately in sculpture and new genres, I enjoy working across disciplines and have a high degree of competency in both traditional and emerging art practices. Some of my projects are intended for the gallery or museum, while others are made for the street or the grocery store. The work is as much about process, and interaction, as it is about making objects. Though it occupies space sometimes quite materially, or volumetrically, it is on other occasions very narrative, or textual, or experiential. I am interested in sharing this approach with my residency participants, empowering them to think and work outside the proverbial box. Through out my career, I have had the opportunity to work across generations, instructing both elementary, college and senior citizens. I have also had the opportunity to work with local and national community-focused groups including Rush Philanthropic (Brooklyn, NY) and ArtWorks (Cincinnati, OH). As an artist educator, I strive to give students the confidence and training necessary to effectively communicate through and about their art. Because my artistic approach is centered on the communication of ideas, I am particularly interested in working with youth of high school age, and with adults of all ages.

The whole of my work is informed largely by my social and cultural surroundings. I use the specifics of location, both physical and psychological, as a springboard to deal with larger themes and issues. My approach as a residency artist is similar. Through preliminary research with my partner organization, I would devise a project and curriculum specific to the group. Whether introducing participants to the fundamentals of basic art making and visual representation, or helping more advanced students develop their ability to articulately contextualize, argue for, and document their constructions, I am interested in engaging individuals and communities where they are, utilizing their particular historical, economic and cultural diversity as points of entry to foster artistic growth and creative expression.

I am a professional artist showing my work both nationally and internationally, including most recently a solo show at the Cincinnati Art Museum where I was nominated as the inaugural winner of the biennial 4th Floor Award. I received my BFA from the University of Cincinnati and earned my MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, both with an emphasis on sculpture and new genres.
