Everyone knows what an architect does, right? You might be surprised. Architectural design in a residency experience can take on many forms. Fourth-graders developed functional, creative additions to the students' own school. Fifth-graders explored the dynamic relationship between spatial design and the written word -- going beyond a typical discussion of "setting" in a story. Other students have created "the classroom of the future" or an intimate space of their very own. A residency can be focused on each individual student creating a unique personal space. Or it may emphasize a collaborative effort in designing for a real or imaginary group.

It's not a stretch for most people to understand how art, science and math factor into the profession of architecture. What most people may not realize though is that history, social issues, and safety are involved in the package too. This multi-disciplinary approach to design guides my work. Yes, buildings must perform critical and mundane functions, but an architect is responsible for providing more than mere shelter. A building can be a sculptural piece of art. Design may be inspired by a song or staged as a theatrical performance.

I received Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from the University of Cincinnati in 1992 and 1993, respectively. I have experience in many aspects of the architectural profession, including corporate space planning, small-scale commercial renovations, residential additions, and computer-aided facilities management.
